Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible likely

It looks like Bentley are planning a convertible version of the Supersports

Bentley introduced the Continental Supersports back at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. A stripped-out (it only has two seats), flex-fuel powerhouse of a Continental, it is the quickest car in Bentley’s stable.

But the focus at Bentley – certainly for the viewing public – has been all about the new Mulsanne. We had the first Mulsanne reveal at Pebble Beach in August, followed by the full reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show. That has been followed up by speculation on a Mulsanne DHC and a Mulsanne Coupe, which are bound to follow at some point, possibly as the Mulsanne Brooklands (which will sound a bit daft) and the Mulsanne Azure. Although it’s probably time for some new names.

But Bentley hasn’t forgotten the model that started the Bentley Renaissance. We think they’re working on the Bentley Continental Hybrid, and now comes word that Bentley are planning to produce a convertible version of the Supersport. Which shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise as there are already ‘GTC’ models of the both the standard Continental and the Speed.

The reports indicate that if – as seems likley – a convertible Supersports gets the go ahead, the 621 bhp bruiser from Crewe will hot the showrooms sometime late in 2010.

And you can bet it will cost a chunk more than any other Continental.

Note: We have a great video of Derek Bell doing the Hill Climb at Goodwood in a Continental Supersports.
