Biggest E-Type Jaguar 50th Party…In the World!
Mon, 25 Jul 2011E-Type Jaguar Silverstone Parade - the biggest in the world
As you can’t have failed to notice, 2011 is the 50th Anniversary of the debut of the iconic Jaguar E-Type, dubbed the most beautiful car in the world by none other than Enzo Ferrari.
Jaguar has taken every opportunity available to celebrate the half century of the car that transformed them in to a world force – for a while at least – from commemorative books to rallies to Motor Show appearances to…well, just about anywhere they could get a bit of PR.
But it’s not just Jaguar who are using the E-Type’s birthday as a way of garnering a bit of press coverage and boosting their event. Silverstone Classic managed to run a competition last month to find the nation’s favourite classic car. Surprise, surprise – it turned out to be the car de jour, the Jaguar E-Type.
Which was a bit of luck as Silverstone Classic had planned on making their 2011 event an E-Type-fest. And we have to say, they certainly delivered that promise in spades this weekend.
Silverstone reckons that in excess of 1,000 E-Types turned up at Silverstone this weekend, a weekend Silverstone like to claim coincided almost exactly with the very first E-Type being delivered in the UK in July 1961. We’ll take their word on that.
All those E-Types resulted in a parade lap of more than 800 E-Types round the Silverstone F1 track (we’re assuming 200 didn’t start) in what the Silverstone Classic people hope is a new World Record. Guinness has been notified.
Also on offer was a hugely impressive turn out of 52 racing E-Types competing in the Silverstone Classic E-Type Challenge, which must in itself have been some sort of record.
This should be the end of the’ E-Type Birthday’ as we can’t see anyone doing anything with the E-Type that hasn’t already been done, or beating the Silverstone Classic gathering. Although that statement will probably end up being a case of famous last words.
We’ve added a few photos of the Silverstone E-Type parade to the E-Type photo gallery below.
