Brabus tunes Mercedes-Benz CLS station wagon to 619 hp
Tue, 09 Oct 2012
We first saw the Mercedes-Benz CLS “Shooting Brake” at the Beijing motor show in 2010. It reappeared this year at the Paris motor show. Now, German tuner Brabus has built an enhancement package for the big, angry wagon. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting to hear whether the beast will show up on our shores.
For Brabus it starts with the engine—like it always does—and the CLS can be upgraded to 619 hp and a rubber-smoking 737 lb-ft of torque with the company’s B63 package. With the power bump, the package drops the sprint time 4.2 seconds and raises the top speed to 200 mph.
Less powerful versions can also be upgraded. Upgrades for the the CLS 500 brings power to 500 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque while diesel versions can get more power with a choice of Brabus Eco kits.
After the engine tune is complete, Brabus turns its attention to the exterior. Vehicles that are equipped with the AMG sport package can have a front lip installed; there are also Brabus fender attachments with backlit Brabus logos. Brabus Monoblock wheels are offered in four sizes with three different designs. The rims are shod with Continental, Pirelli or Yokohama tires.
Brabus partnered with Bilstein on the suspension. Packages range from simple sport springs to complete suspensions with a Brabus module that lowers ride height on cars equipped with Mercedes’ Airmatic suspension.
Completing the list of upgrades is the Brabus sport exhaust system, which is only offered on the CLS 63. The push of a button tweaks the exhaust for a more aggressive note.
A full suite of interior enhancements is also available from Brabus. It includes leather, Alcantara, scuff plates, a speedometer and a few other baubles.
Pricing will be available soon at Brabus.com.
