Brief 2 – Cadillac: CDN–GM Interactive Design Competition
Tue, 12 Aug 2014Car Design News and General Motors are once again holding an Interactive Design Competition. There are five briefs to choose from, set by GM's designers, and you're invited to submit your entry on the competition website: http://www.cardesigncontest.com/
Cadillac's brief offers an interesting challenge: looking to the horizon – while considering global luxury customers, competitors and trends – how would you design a Cadillac V-Series vehicle for an urban environment?
The brief asks for your to design a B- or C-segment car that embodies Cadillac brand philosophy and vehicle attributes, and should give an evolutionary perspective on the firm's Art & Science design philosophy.
However, Cadillac also states that designers should avoid overly aggressive or over-styled themes, and instead should concentrate on simplicity and minimalism in your proposals.
If you create a design that stands out to our panel of GM and CDN judges, then you could be in with a shout of winning one of six, three-month paid internships that offer the chance to work alongside GM's design teams at the world-famous Tech Center in Warren, MI.
The competition is open to full-time design students of all disciplines, in a college or university in the USA or Canada and who have at least one more semester to complete after the 2015 summer internship ends. Winners will be announced at the NAIAS in Detroit, in January 2015.
The initial ideation phase of the competition ends on 22 August, so head to http://www.cardesigncontest.com/ to enter.
