Brief 4 – GMC: CDN–GM Interactive Design Competition
Thu, 14 Aug 2014Once again, Car Design News and General Motors are holding an Interactive Design Competition. There are five design briefs to choose from, each set by GM's design teams, and you're invited to submit your entry on the competition website: http://www.cardesigncontest.com/
The fourth of our briefs comes from GMC, GM's truck-and-utility-only brand, and asks you to design of the interior or exterior of a GMC show car to be revealed at the 2030 North American International Auto Show.
Your design should focus on a future interpretation of GMC's ‘industrial sculpture' design philosophy. You'll need to bear in mind who the customer for this truck or utility vehicle is, and consider what is the purpose and application of the vehicle. GMC's designers will also be looking for how your vehicle fits in the firm's brand portfolio, and exactly what makes it a GMC. As a final point, GMC isn't just looking for a new concept, it's looking for you to display the visual inspiration that led to your design choices, too.
The best work will be singled out by GM and CDN judges, with the top designers being rewarded with one of six, three-month paid internships offering the chance to work alongside GM's designers at the world-famous Tech Center in Warren, MI.
The contest is open to full-time design students of all disciplines, in a college or university in the USA or Canada and who have at least one more semester to complete after the 2015 summer internship ends. Winners will be announced at the NAIAS in Detroit, in January 2015.
The initial ideation phase of the competition ends on 22 August, so head to http://www.cardesigncontest.com/ to enter.
