CDN-Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Design competition winner announced
Fri, 28 Sep 2012Vladislav Domanin is the overall winner of the CDN-Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Design competition. The announcement was made by Friedhelm Engler, Director GME Advanced Design, during the second day press day of the Paris motor show on the Opel/Vauxhall stand.
Mateusz Wowk from the Academy of Art of Design in Wroclaw was this year's runner-up in the exterior category, while Matic Vihtelic of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design, Ljubljana, was declared runner-up in the interior category.
Opel/Vauxhall's brief asked students to design the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera of the year 2020 by submitting both an interior and exterior design. 263 students answered the call and got to work in an effort to secure the top prize – a paid internship at Opel/Vauxhall's design center in Rüsslesheim, Germany.
Domanin's design impressed the judges with its futuristic, monovolume form, well-resolved surface language and the evolution of the Opel/Vauxhall design language.
Judge Joe Simpson, Associate Editor of Car Design News said, "Domanin's entry was immediately impressive from the very start of this completion. But it was the way his design developed and his response to the mentors' direction that really made it something special."
Within the exterior category, the judges were impressed by Mateusz Wowk's entry. "During the development of his design, he really began to express and experiment with some of the brand design cues. Particularly noteworthy is his fresh take on the Ampera boomerang lamps," said Richard Shaw, Chief Designer Opel/Vauxhall Advanced Design.
Matic Vihtelic was commended for his interior design of the 2020 Ampera, taking the runner-up spot.
Kurt Beyer, Chief Designer Opel Vauxhall Small Car Interiors, said, "Matic had a strong and clear concept from the very beginning of the project, which he kept consistent throughout the course of the competition. His ideas are fresh, innovative, and beautifully visualised, elegantly demonstrating the theme of efficiency for the Ampera."
The three finalists were chosen from a shortlist of: Marc Devauze, from ISD (Institut Supérieur de Design), France; Strate College student Ali Kerkeni and Borys Dabrowski and Ahmed Moslemifar, both studying at Coventry University, UK.
The finalists' work will be on display on the Opel/Vauxhall stand at the Paris motor show until 14th October 2012, or you can visit the competition website to see these and the other competition entries.
