Cadillac to auction first '14 CTS V-Sport to charity
Fri, 24 May 2013
General Motors said Wednesday that it will be donating the first production model of the 2014 Cadillac CTS V-Sport to the SAE Foundation. The car will then be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson later this year with the proceeds going to the foundation's science, technology, engineering and mathematics student programs.
The CTS V-Sport, or as Cadillac officially spells it, Vsport, was revealed earlier this year at the New York Auto Show. The car features a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 churning out 420 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque mated to an eight-speed transmission.
Mary Barra, GM's senior vice president of global product development, became the first woman to win the SAE Foundation's Industry Leadership Award in the accolade's 25-year history.
“The SAE Foundation's STEM educational programs are vital to ensuring we ignite the passion for math and science in young students who will be the future leaders of the automobile industry,” said Barra to The Detroit News. “It is fitting to support SAE's programs by donating a vehicle that embodies what is possible when ingenuity meets engineering excellence.”
The buyer of the car at the auction will also receive a performance driving school package.
Stay tuned for the auction results later this year to see how much the car reels in.
