Cadillac to update CUE system

The Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system gets a significant update to address complaints and add new features.

CUE provides in-car infotainment, navigation and communication. It is managed on an 8-inch touchscreen designed to simulate a smartphone.

According to GM Inside News, Cadillac hopes to better overall performance by improving reaction time, a response to consumer complaints that system functions are slow.

Also improved is navigation, with more street names and a revamped routing system.

New to CUE is a working interface with Apple iPhone “personal assistant” Siri. With the update, Siri can be used through the car's audio system using Siri's “Eyes Free” mode. This mode permits common-language voice commands to call people, select and play music, hear and compose text messages, use maps, find calendar information and set reminders.

The update will also increase the range of compatible media players and will increase the size of the phone contact download from 1,000 to 3,500 contacts.

Cadillac owners with the CUE system should be notified of the free update by mail starting in March, and will be asked to bring their vehicle into a dealership for the upgrade.

CUE debuted in 2012 and is available on the Cadillac XTS and ATS sedans, and SRX crossover.
