Callaway's Supercharged Corvette Stingray packs 610-hp
Mon, 20 Jan 2014
Callaway has debuted their supercharged version of the Chevrolet Corvette dubbed SC610, which should provide an intriguing alternative to the the 2015 Corvette Z06. SC of course stands for supercharged, with 610 being the horsepower figure. That's right, Callaway has squeezed out an extra 155-hp and 96 lb-ft of torque out of the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 powering the C7 Corvette, for a total of 610-hp and 55 lb-ft of torque. So what's under the hood of Callaway's version?
What's under the hood is actually quite visible, as the supercharger design extends through the hood itself. Callaway used an Eaton TVS four-lobe high helix rotor pack, while debuting a redesigned supercharger housing and manifold. The latter tweak is said to deliver improved airflow, which along with a new intercooler configuration reduces the charge air temperature. The result is a 0 to 60 time of 3.4 seconds, and the ability to run a quarter mile in just 11 seconds. By comparison, the Z06 Corvette which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show last week produces 625-hp and 635 lb-ft of torque, though GM hasn't released the Z06's performance numbers quite yet.

The hood design is a bit more modest than that of the Z06, and the price of entry is likely to be lower.
The changes to the Callaway SC610 aren't confined to the powerplant, as Callaway has also added a high flow intake system, a stainless steel exhaust system, as well as a number of badges. As far as options go, the SC610 can be ordered with Callaway's own nine-spoke wheels, a coil-over suspension with double adjustable dampers, a short throw shifter, the LeMans GT brake package, several different carbon body panels including a splitter and a rear spoiler, and an interior sport package. Perhaps the most exciting option for the SC610 is the AeroWagon shooting brake conversion.
Callaway offers a 3 year/36,000 mile limited warranty, upgradeable to 5 years and 100,000 miles for the SC610 package. All the options, save for the AeroWagon conversion, total just $22,995 in addition to the price of a standard C7 Corvette. That may turn out to be a bargain compared the Z06 Corvette, which is expected to retail for quite a bit more.
