Caterham has returned to its K-series roots with a new version of its Seven, dubbed the CDX Limited Edition. Not a catchy moniker perhaps, but the new car has been built to commemorate 15 years of the Caterham Driving Experience (CDX) – the track days where you can drift or slalom a Seven.
As well as the gloss black paint, plus decals along the sides mimicking the CDX cars, the big news is the return of the K-series powerplant delivering 135bhp through a five-speed ‘box.
Caterham decided this would be the best use of the K-series engines it has left. There are no performance figures as yet, but expect a 0-60mph time of under six seconds and a 115mph top speed. The exhaust also moves back to the left-hand side, whereas on the new Ford-powered cars it exits on the right.
Only 20 will be made, so you're unlikely to see another CDX on the road, plus Caterham says over £2k worth of extras are included in the £17,495 component price – it's £20,495 if you want the car built by the factory. Those extras include a limited slip diff', weather protection and a starter button. Sounds perfect for the summer.
