Caterham Cars offers free 40-year anniversary package

Thu, 09 May 2013

Caterham Cars, the U.K.-based maker of lightweight track-day vehicles, will celebrate 40 years building the legendary Seven with a free option package for the open-wheel roadster. The package is available starting today, but only for the first 40 orders of the Seven or its variants.

Rights to the Seven were acquired by Graham Nearn from Lotus legend Colin Chapman in 1973. Caterham says that it continually developed the sports car, but never deviated from Chapman's philosophy of “adding lightness.”

The package is available to buyers in the U.K. or any of Caterham's export markets worldwide. It includes a gray-painted chassis, ruby red “40YOC” badging, hand-tailored leather seats, gray leather dashboard, bespoke top, a numbered dash plaque, new 15-inch alloy wheels and a special ignition key.

Pricing for the range of Sevens from Caterham starts at $30,984, converted from British pounds, and tops out at $65,850 for the Superlight R500.

The least expensive Caterham Seven comes with a 1.6-liter Ford engine making 125 hp, while the top model delivers 230 hp from a 2.3-liter Cosworth Duratec.
