Caterham offers ’40 Years of Caterham’ pack to quickest Seven buyers
Fri, 10 May 2013
Caterham has come up with a novel way to flog its new limited edition accessory pack – the goodies are only being offered to the first 40 customers to buy a brand new Seven, starting from today (10 May 2013).
What’s in the 40 Years of Caterham pack? You’ll get a grey-painted chassis and ruby bodywork with bespoke stripes, and unqiue 15in ‘Caterham’-embossed alloy wheels with new wheel centres. The ‘cabin’ is as luxurious as a Caterham gets, with hand-upholstered leather seats with grey piping, and a grey leather dashboard (except if you buy an R500 Superlight, in which case you get the standard car’s carbonfibre dash).
There’s more grey detailing too: the handbrake and gearlever gaiter are trimmed in grey leather, and you naturally there's a numbered plaque showing you were quick enough off the mark to bag a limited edition Seven. You also get a special ‘7’-shaped ignition key.
So the pack is free, but how much is a Caterham again? The entry-level Roadsport 125 comes in at a fiver under £20,000, while the flagship Caterham remains – for now – the £42,495 R500 Superlight: good for 0-60mph in 2.9sec thanks to its 263bhp, 506kg kerbweight and sticky track-biased tyres.
However, it’s expected there’ll soon be an even more extreme Caterham R600 based on the company’s new racing car. The R600 Superlight racer has a 275bhp 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine, costs £44,995.
