If you want proper American Muscle Car performance you don’t need to look much further than the new Corvette Z06 with its 6.2 litre Supercharged V8 delivering 625 horses and 635 lb/ft of torque. And now you can have it without a roof. The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible has been revealed ahead of its New York Auto Show debut, and it offers exactly the same power and performance as its hard top sibling.
That, say Chevrolet, is down to the new Corvette’s aluminium structure which is 20 per cent stiffer than previous models and so needs to added RSJs to stop the front and back parting company without a roof to hold them together.
Options and specifications for the ZO6 Convertible are pretty much identical to the Coupe which means a choice of 7-speed manual or 8-speed auto, refined chassis setup, three different aero packages – standard, Carbon fibre and Zo7 – and, because it’s a convertible, and electric roof that can be lowered or raised at up to 30 mph.
The Z06 Convertible is coming to the UK in 2015 (by which time Corvette should have revealed its performance figures and price), although it will only be available in LHD – just like the Z06 Coupe.
