Chris Bangle Associates announces 'Illustrate the Future' design competition
Mon, 16 Jan 2012Chris Bangle Associates has announced a new design contest called 'Illustrate the Future.' The competition is open to all design students across all design disciplines and coincides with the launch of Managing Director, Chris Bangle's new book.
"I have written a fiction book about Car Design and the prologue takes place 25 years in the future," says Bangle. "It contains some concepts I have been working on, and this contest is to see what YOU would make of them."
Bangle's novel explores the state of affairs in the car design field and also expresses his concerns about the culture future generations of designers will inherit.
The competition asks entrants to provide the illustrations for the second edition of the eBook, Peter Teuful: A Tale of Car Design in Three Parts. This tale is adapted from the classic Dickens story, A Christmas Carol, with the industry broken down into three parts: "The secret to doing true car design as learned from the past; the twisted reality of car design as it has become today; and the inevitable future that awaits those who choose this ‘profession' in the future," explains Bangle.
Extracts from the book will be published online at the Chris Bangle Associates website, inspiring entrants to create six different future mobility machines.
The competition will run until 30 March 2012, when judging will commence. This will focus on three criteria: the closeness to the original text; creative content; and illustrative quality. The winner will be given a choice of prizes – either a one-week visit to the CBA studio in Italy and a design workshop with Chris Bangle, or a €2,000 cash prize. The winner will also see their illustrations published in the novel.
