Chrysler/Lancia Ypsilon
Mon, 14 Feb 2011To celebrate 25 years of the Lancia Ypsilon, the Fiat is set to launch an all new variant at the 81st Geneva motor show. Based on a stretched Fiat 500 platform, the Ypsilon boasts an extra 300mm between its front and rear wheels, improving rear legroom and allowing for the additional rear doors. Overall, the Ypsilon's exterior has grown by around 60mm in length, but the cars height has dropped by around 20mm.
The body has been given a 'retro' make over, recalling previous generation Ypsilons as well as Lancias of the past; the C-pillars are said to be reminiscent of the Delta. The overall design of the new Ypsilon was conceived from the outset to separate the various elements and sections of the car in order to favor a two-tone version in the 'boldest, sleekest and most attractive way possible.'
Inside the diminutive city car retains 'the characteristics that have always distinguished Lancia's small city-cars'. This means that the small car boasts extensive amounts of leather and an emphasis on technological features. The passenger space is said to be created through 'subtraction of volumes' and is represented by hollow surfaces, which allows for different usability. As with the exterior, the car simplifies the sections and areas of the car by use of color, giving an impression of lightness highlighted by the use of LED lighting.
