The budget MPV war is set to reignite. Peugeot and Citroen have today announced details of their respective people carriers - the Partner Tepee and Berlingo Multispace. These are big sellers for the French pair, with the previous generation Berlingo selling some 1.8 million vehicles in both car and van guises.
Both workhorses can be had with glass roofs, independently opening tailgate windows, three removable rear seats, and aircraft-style overhead storage. And while neither quite disguises its van-based roots, they look alluringly smart and functional.
The Peugeot will go on sale in May 2008, while a plastic-clad Outdoor model will also be available. The engine line-up will include the 90 and 110 versions of the firm’s 1.6-litre HDi models, with prices starting at around £12,000. No word yet on the Citroen’s sale date, but expect May as well.
Van versions of both cars will also be available, with the ability to carry 850kg and seat three.
