Citroen is one of the show stealers this year with a stunning-looking concept car that you can actually drive, courtesy of a tie-up with PlayStation. But the firm’s stand had something for everyone, with 34 models including the new C3 Picasso, BMW X6-like Hypnos concept and even a hybrid World Rally Championship car.
This was the first car the firm unveiled in Paris and the one it spent most time talking about. It’s a Renault Modus-rivalling baby people carrier which goes on sale early in 2009. It’s a five-seater with a versatile interior, priced from around £12,000 and Citroen is confident it will become the segment’s best-seller.
The GT by Citroen concept, a cross between a Le Mans racer and a supercar was the eye candy, built in a link with computer game Gran Turismo. And the diesel-electric hybrid Hypnos concept, basically a jacked-up C5 with a coupe body shape was another candidate for best-looking car at the show. Shame it’ll never be made. There was also the first sight of a seven-seat Berlingo and the production version of the five-seat Nemo baby budget MPV.
Citroen’s stand had something for everyone with an environmentally friendly twist. It even claims the hybrid WRC car is ready to run if it’s allowed. Sadly the GT by Citroen will never go beyond a computer screen.
CAR's Citroen show score: 4/5
