The Citroen Lacoste Concept - A Gallic Mini Moke?

You would be entirely forgiven for taking one look at the photo at the top and deciding it was a another over the top Golf Buggy for golfers with more money than taste (no, I’m not going there).

But if it’s not a mad golf buggy there’s only on other thing it could be – a daft concept from Citroen; a speciality of the French maker, especially at their home Motor Show.

So we get treated to something that looks like a Mini Moke crossed with a golf buggy with a set of dimpled, golf-ball wheels.

We think the Citroen Lacoste could be a re-bodied C1. It’s running a three-pot petrol lump and the dimensions stack up, but Citroen aren’t saying.

Citroen has weaved a number of sporting references in to the Lacoste Concept’s design. As well as the golf ball wheels there’s stuff like seat trim with the weave of a Polo shirt and relief designs on the bodywork which look like tennis nets.

But it’s not just a stylistic exercise on a C1 platform, there’s actually some clever-ish stuff like the automatically inflating soft top which deploys from the T-Bone roof structure to save the Lacoste from the elements. Which sounds good.

We really can’t decide if this concept points anywhere at all or brings anything to the party. It’s possible that the front end might hint at the next C1, but that’s a stretch.

We think it’s just a bit of Citroen daftness. And we applaud it.
