Cobra Venom V8 concept
Tue, 01 Jul 2008Created by UK-based designer Jamie Martin, the Cobra Venom V8 concept is heralded as the true spiritual successor to the classic AC/Shelby Cobra. It celebrates the great Anglo-American partnership that produced one of the most iconic racing cars of the last century.
Built atop a lightweight extruded aluminium chassis, the Cobra Venom V8 features carbon-fiber body panels and an F1-style alloy 'protective cocoon'. 17-inch brushed gun-metal cast aluminum wheels wrap around Pirelli P-Zero 'snake tread' tires while HID LED headlamps light the road ahead. LEDs also feature at the rear.
With its combination of unmistakable looks and musclecar spirit, the Cobra Venom V8 concept brings the charisma of the racing classic into the 21st Century. Aiming to provide the thrills that the name has made legend, the car will be powered by a supercharged 4.6-liter Ford V8 producing 524bhp, claimed to achieve 62mph in 3.4 seconds from a standstill and top out at 214mph.
Martin told CDN that the "design has been slowly gestating" since he originally created the concept nearly a decade ago, though response from AC Cars Ltd had been positive. "There are no current plans for the car to be released, but the possibility isn't out of the question," he said.
