Coventry University students prepare for the MA Design Degree Show
Fri, 25 Nov 2005 MA students from England's Coventry University Automotive Design course are preparing for their annual degree exhibition. This year's Show, entitled '15' will present fifteen students work from the fifteen month course in the new Coventry Transport Museum in the centre of the city.
The projects on show cover the full spectrum of vehicle concepts ranging from a luxury car inspired by Chanel perfume to a future proposal for a New York taxi and students have taken a wide variety of starting points for their project research. Jean-Michel Raad's MOOV concept is a vehicle based on parcours philosophy that uses biomechanical muscles to transform its chassis, thus allowing the rider to perform acrobatic stunts. Rob Battams has looked at how water might inspire form language to come up with a new age beach buggy, while Greek student George Koukos has explored how gaps in exterior surfaces might be minimised in future, leading to new types of sculptural forms.
The Coventry Masters programme, now in its thirteenth year, is designed to appeal to former BA Design graduates who would like to further advance their skills or acquire new ones, especially in the use of Alias software and clay modelling. The MA Automotive Design course is now a four-semester course with more emphasis on advanced concept thinking and computer-aided design. The course has a strong international presence, with students from USA, India, China, Korea and France among this year's graduates, which ensures a rich mix of culture within the projects on display.
Admission to the show is free and runs from Friday 2nd December to Friday 9th December 10am-5pm daily, whilst the Private View is on Thursday 1st December 6-10pm, by invitation only.
