Craigslist Catch: 1977 Datsun 280Z
Mon, 25 Apr 2011That's Z, not ZX folks. One letter makes a world of difference.
For all those who remember the 280ZX as a bloated slug, there are remarkably few who recognize the 280Z as a worthy evolution of the original Z car.
This Atlanta-based example is being sold by its second owner and seems to have suffered just a handful of indignities . . . er, “upgrades,” over the years, including coilovers, ZX rear discs and a roll bar. Overall, it looks tastefully done, and the Panasports add a nice period touch.
For $8,500, we'd prefer a bone-stock original. What say you? Also, is the 280Z or one of its smaller-displacement brothers worthy of inclusion in the AutoWeek long-term classic garage? Let us know your thoughts.
And, for a quick reminder of the indignities the marque would suffer just two short years later, we offer you the timeless 280ZX Black Gold edition in full video goodness. Purists, avert thine eyes.
