Crucified cassette, Hindi BMW remix CD and other junkyard musical finds
Mon, 24 Mar 2014
In addition to holiday-themed displays assembled by junkyard employees and the occasional sad, flood-victim Volvo Amazon, I frequently find homemade mix CDs and cassette tapes while prowling through wrecking yards. In fact, it would be possible to go into just about any high-inventory-turnover self-service wrecking yard in North America and come away with several dozen such discs and tapes, if anybody ever felt motivated to do such a thing. I haven't, yet. I have, however, photographed a few recently. For example, this Gothy-looking mix tape, found in the dirt next to a thoroughly trashed Ford Tempo.

I found this in a Mercury Grand Marquis.
In a Mercury Grand Marquis, I spotted this "Latest Hindi Remix Limited Edition" BMW CD, which I'm pretty sure wasn't authorized by BMW. This one isn't quite a home-burned disc, but it was probably sold out of a car trunk by a guy who prints the labels on a home laser-printer.

The junkyard found photos subgenre is something I'll need to explore at greater depth later on.
Then there's the weird photos that one finds in and around junked cars. I've resisted making a collection of found photos from these cars, because it would get out of control so quickly. But still, some excellent images to be found. For example, this photo. So many things going on here!

It took some digging to figure out this reference.
Sometimes the cars themselves have indecipherable personalized touches. Here's a hood with a "KRIGSMJOD VII" stencil. What does that mean? Well, it appears to be a pseudo-Swedish word used by the Finnish folk-metal band Finntroll. The owner of the car must have been a big fan of this song.
