De Tomaso sold to unknown investors

De Tomaso – the ill-fated Italian supercar maker – has been sold by Gian Mario Rossignolo after a financially fraught revival attempt.

De Tomaso seems fated to lurch from one financial crisis to another – as it has throughout its history – with the latest efforts by former Fiat executive Gian Mario Rossignolo to revive the marque floundering for investment. And it looks like Rossignolo has given up the fight and sold out to unnamed investors.

The Italian press are reporting that control of De Tomaso has been sold to a group of investors with experience in the automotive sector, although Rossignolo says he and family members will still be involved in De Tomaso. At the moment details of the new investors are not being revealed, although Rossignolo has said information will be revealed soon.

We reported recently that De Tomaso had sold the rights to their odd looking De Tomaso Deauville to the Chinese, and prior to that we reported that De Tomaso had received an investment from India to keep them going.  Perhaps the Indians have stumped up more cash to take control, but if they have, who are they? Best guess is probably Mahindra, who are on a mission to become a world player and are currently pursuing Saab’s assets.

Whoever the investors are, maybe they come armed with enough cash and nous to get De Tomaso on-track, stop messing around with daft luxury crossovers and finally deliver the only car anyone wants to see – an all new De Tomaso Pantera.
