Elon Musk to appear in an episode of The Simpsons

Tesla chief Elon Musk is to appear in popular TV animation The Simpsons, the show’s executive producer has revealed.

In a tweet this week, Al Jean said Musk would be in the first of 11 episodes of the next series of The Simpsons, the long-running comedy now entering its 26th season.

For a man who’s already founded internet payment facility Paypal, launched Tesla Motors and backing space exploration firm SpaceX, an appearance on The Simpsons is probably just another day in the office for Musk.

But this is no mere flash in the pan guest appearance, it seems.

Jean says this is not a ‘kiss-ass celebrity guest star turn: [evil industrial overlord Montgomery] Burns tries to kill him, and we reveal Musk’s master password.’

Industry newspaper Automotive News claims the episode is called The Musk Who Fell To Earth, suggesting the eponymous car chief has much more than a fleeting appearance on screen.

At the Comic-Con festival in San Diego, executive producer Jean revealed that Burns lost all his money to Musk – in a classically sinister-sounding plot with which some boardrooms around the world’s car makers will surely identify.

Tesla Motors continues to make waves with its Model S electric saloon, which has now launched in the UK.

Musk recently confirmed the next model on the drawing board would be called Model 3. It’s a BMW 3-series rival, moving Tesla Motors into the heartland of the executive car market.

This is technically Tesla’s second appearance in The Simpsons, the company claims. The show’s creators played on his name by making him a type of fragrance in the made-up ASK Body Spray in an earlier episode.

Tesla’s blog said: ‘You know you’re famous when you get featured on The Simpsons.’
