F3 History To Repeat At Silverstone Classic
Tue, 24 Jun 2014ANYONE with fond memories of the ‘good old days’ of motor racing are in for a treat at this year’s Silverstone Classic meeting.
Alongside numerous historic racing categories, event organisers are also promoting a line-up of classic F3 cars celebrating 50 years of the entertaining formula.
Popular with up and coming drivers keen to advance to Formula One, F3 was used as a stepping stone by the likes of Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alan Jones and Alain Prost.
Many of the actual cars raced by these drivers will be back in action at Silverstone as part of the biggest grid of classic F3 cars ever seen at the Northamptonshire circuit.
Commenting on the F3 race programme, Nick Wigley, Event Director, said: “It’s the first time we’ve included classic F3 cars on the Silverstone Classic bill and we are delighted that this initiative has already attracted such a massive and noteworthy entry.
“This era of F3 is truly memorable as it played such a major part in the careers of so many future F1 champions. I’m sure its addition to this year’s incredible line-up of races will go really well with the record crowd we are confident of attracting to Silverstone in July.”
The organisers are reporting record ticket pre-sales for this year’s running of the ticket only event (25-27 July). Full details can be found on the official www.silverstoneclassic.com website.
