Two FFs 40 years apart - the Jensen FF & Ferrari FF

Classic Driver has taken the Jensen FF and Ferrari FF to St Moritz to see what forty years of car development means for two 4WD Supercars.

St Moritz lies in the Engadine valley in Switzerland and is a winter wonderland playground for the rich, so what better place to take a pair of stunning four-wheel-drive supercars to play than this?

Which is why Classic Driver chose St Moritz to take the Jensen FF and Ferrari FF for a (not too close) comparison of what forty years of supercar development means.

The Jensen FF was the four wheel drive supercar of the late sixties and early seventies. It was the 4WD version of the Jensen Interceptor with Ferguson Formula four wheel drive (hence the FF), and the Jensen FF wasn’t just the first supercar with 4WD, but the first non-off-road car too. It had ABS and a 6.3 litre V8 under its long bonnet with 325bhp and a 0-60mph somewhere in the mid 7 seconds.

Move on forty years and we have the Ferrari FF, with its sophisticated part time 4WD, a 6.3 litre V12 with 650bhp and a 0-60mpg in the mid 3 seconds. Ferrari nuts have disparaged the FF as sacrilege, but we love it; the Ferrari FF is exactly what a 21st century four-seat Ferrari should be.

Classic Driver may not have blatted either FF around as much as we’d have liked in this video, but the visual comparison between the Jensen FF and Ferrari FF – and their disparate performance – makes for interesting viewing.
