Ferrari and Mercedes videos celebrate social-media milestones

Thu, 03 May 2012

Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz shared a moment last week when Ferrari's Facebook page cracked 8 million fans and Mercedes' hit 2 million video views. They celebrated in similar but different ways.

Ferrari took its 458 Italia and burned the digits 8,000,000 in rubber on some asphalt. The video gets high marks for its use of 1,000-frames-per-second slow-motion burnouts, showing off the manettino and intense music. Also thrown in are some engine sounds and images of the driver clearly holding first gear. Whether the final shot is computer generated or real is anyone's guess.

The Mercedes video gets points for being shot right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. The tire-smoking hoonage takes place at Laguna Seca in California, where the Mercedes C63 AMG coupe gets put through its paces on the famous Corkscrew.

Right off the bat Mercedes gains points for its use of a helicopter. Roof- and trunk-mounted cameras also record the action, but unfortunately, no slow motion. You do get to hear the crackling V8, and bonus points are given for difficulty considering the elevation change.

Check out the videos and let us know in the Comments section which one you like best.
