Ferrari launches Tailor-Made program

Thu, 08 Dec 2011

Following an initial reveal at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show in September, Ferrari recently announced a new personalization program that will enable owners to create a highly individual and unique vehicle.

The latest in a long line of manufacturers to begin offering highly personalized cars for individual owners, Ferrari's take is far more ambitious. The new Tailor-Made program harks back to the 1960s when each Ferrari was custom made to suit the desires of each individual owner and offers a multitude of infinitely personalizable options.

The new Tailor-Made program allows owners to specify every last detail of their Ferrari – from the exterior color to the interior stitching – through an extensive list of accessories, materials and unique finishes created by the Ferrari Styling Center.

The program features three distinct categories – Scuderia, Classica and Inedita – for owners to specify options from. The Scuderia element of the program is directly influenced by Ferrari's iconic sporting heritage; Classica offers buyers a modern twist on the cues and features of Ferrari's past; and Inedita is more experimental, offering an element of novelty and innovation in terms of styling, colors and materials.

The Scuderia specification offers a choice of race-derived materials and liveries, such as seats trimmed in a breathable leather – akin to those of previous Forumla One cars. The 458 Italia (pictured, left) features this option along with a unique Alutex (fiberglass and aluminum composite) IP and a unique diamond-quilted fabric, all inspired by the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa.

Classica adopts a more traditional, elegant approach to its personalization. The options within this catalog combine pastel colors, vintage leather and cashmere wools, and also extend through to chromed elements on the IP as well as intricate stitching and natural leather choices. Ferrari chose the FF to demonstrate these options. The car is influenced by the 250 Europa, mimicking its silver paintwork with grey detailing, pinstripe cloth and leather interior through to its teak-lined boot.

A prime example of the Inedita program at its peak is the denim-trimmed California interior; a car that boasts pale blue leather alternates with denim trim across sections of the IP, door cards and seats. This experimental formula also offers buyers the options of suit fabrics, bold leather color schemes and technical fabrics to swath their interiors in.

Those lucky enough to experience the program will be assigned a personal designer who is charged with guaranteeing that the result delivered are those requested. The program aims to stick to Ferrari's core values of elegance, passion and innovation.
