Ferrari plans ‘Super’ LaFerrari – quicker, lighter and MUCH more expensive

Update: Ferrari has been on the phone to say they are NOT planning a ‘Super’ LaFerrari and that the story is as a result of a misunderstanding.

We did wonder, when Ferrari revealed LaFerrari – complete with stupid name – if the only way to go in the future would be a LaLa Ferrari. It seems we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Autocar are reporting a conversation with LaFerrari chief designer, Flavio Manzoni, who told them that LaFerrari isn’t the pinnacle of Ferrari road cars and that they’re planning to build a more extreme model above LaFerrari.

Manzoni said:

When we were producing the original design proposals for LaFerrari,there was one proposal that I thought was especially beautiful. So we decided to keep that one back for something truly special in the future.

That may promise something very special from Ferrari in the not too distant future, but how the 499 buyers of LaFerrari are going to feel when they discover their car wasn’t the best Ferrari could build, and that they kept back the most beautiful design for a future model, we wouldn’t like to say.

Autocar reckon the new ‘Super’ LaFerarri will be lighter and quicker and cost between three and five times LaFerrari (putting it somewhere in the £3-5 million range) when it does arrive, and that less than ten will be built.

It’s a huge amount of money, but if Lamborghini can prise £3 million for the titivated Aventador that is the Lamorghini Veneno from a handful of Lamborghini nuts, we’re sure Ferrari will have no trouble parting ten wealthy men of their cash.
