Fiat has unveiled the all-new Doblo – the doyen of practical MPVs. Fiat has flogged a million since the first Doblo went on sale in 2000 and today's latest model adds some welcome polish to the acres of room in the back.

It's a properly new model, with just 3% carryover parts from the last Doblo. Underneath those boxy looks and sliding rear doors lies the hardware from a front-drive Punto Evo.

The new Doblo can be specced as a seven-seater but the standard five-seat version comes with a cavernous 790-litre boot (expanding to 3200 with all the rear seats removed). All five back seats fold or can be removed, transforming the Doblo from people carrier to workhorse removal van.

Fiat Doblo: the engine room

Diesels will be popular in the Doblo range and there's a 105bhp 1.6- and 135bhp 2.0-litre to choose from; the smaller derv engine can be had with an auto transmission.

Prices start at £12,295 for the 95bhp 1.4 petrol and climb to £17,145 for the top version. All Doblos come with start-stop, stability control and a hill holder function to stop the car rolling back on an incline.

Fiat's eco:Drive software gives real-time fuel consumption readings and lets drivers score on a 1-100 scale for eco driving. Fiat's serious about its reputation for building the lowest CO2 car range in Europe.
