Fifth Gear Tonight: Mercedes CLS63 AMG, Porsche Panamera GTS, RoadYacht GTR & new MGB GT
Mon, 25 Feb 2013A new episode of Fifth Gear on Discovery tonight with Mercedes CLS63 AMG, Porsche Panamera GTS, RoadYacht GTR & new MGB GT.
Our weekly reminder of what’s on the new series of Fifth Gear seems popular, so here we go again with a look at what Fifth Gear has on offer this week.
Vicki Butler-Henderson and Jonny Smith take to the track with a pair of powerful German super saloons – the Mercedes CLS63AMG and Porsche Panamera GTS – to see which comes out on top. The CLS63 AMG has 549bhp, does 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and costs £82k, compared to the Porsche Panamera GTS’s 430 horses, 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and £91k price tag. Should be interesting.
The RoadYacht GTS is a supercar from Dutch car maker Savage Rivale and comes with a 6.2 litre V8 with enough grunt to – 670bhp – to get to 62mph in 3.5 seconds and on to 205mph. This week, Jason Plato goes playing with the GTS’s track version – the Savage Rivale RoadYacht GTR – which come with up to 800bhp, full race spec and the promise of immense performance from the 69 cars being built.
Tiff Needell goes playing with the poor man’s Eagle E-Type this week – the Frontline MGB GT (which sounds like something our dogs hide from) – a £50k plus recreation of the original MGB GT with an MG Heritage bodyshell and the 2.2 litre petrol engine from the Mazda MX-5. Seems a lot of money for an MGB GT that doesn’t have a V8, but probably no more expensive than doing a proper restoration of an original MGB GT.
Finally, Jonny goes off to Switzerland to show how your car can keep you alive if you’re stranded in the wilderness of the Alps.
The third episode of the new series of Fifth Gear airs tonight on Discovery at 8pm.
