Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild Reunion at Eyes on Design 2004
Mon, 14 Jun 2004 The first Reunion of the Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild Coach & Model Car Competition will be held in conjunction with the 17th Annual Eyes on Design Exhibition, June 25-27, 2004. The reunion will bring together the organizers and the participants of one of the largest and most important youth-oriented, design activities ever developed. Participants from around the U.S. and abroad competed for cash prizes and college scholarships by designing and building model cars which expressed their vision of future automotive design directions.Over 8 million young people worked diligently to create their models from 1930 until the program's conclusion in 1968.
The Reunion is being organized by Chuck Jordan, retired GM Design Vice President and John M. Mellberg, Creative Vehicle Stylist at Thomas Built Buses, both of whom were winners of significant prizes in the Craftsman's Guild.
The Reunion will be held on June 26th and 27th. It will include a Craftsman's Guild Dinner hosted by GM Design at the GM Design Auditorium Saturday evening and on Sunday the Guildsmen attending the reunion will be guests at the annual ?Eyes on Design' Exhibition in Grosse Pointe where their winning models will be on display.
"The Craftsman's Guild Reunion will make a great addition to our 2004 Eyes on Design Exhibition because ?Eyes' is the only vehicle exhibition to focus exclusively on automotive design," said Dr. Philip Hessburg, President of the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, the group which organizes the Eyes on Design each year to raise funds to support their work for the visually impaired citizens of southeastern Michigan.
