Fisker Atlantic official

The Fisker Atlantic – a smaller range extender car from Fisker – has been officially revealed on the eve of the New York Auto Show.

We had the leaked photos of the new Fisker Atlantic a few days ago – a car we’d known as ‘Project Nina until now – but now we have the real deal from Fisker on the Atlantic as the New York Auto Show gets ready to strut its stuff. And we don’t really know any more about Fisker’s new baby than we did before.

We already knew that the Fisker Atlantic was a good looking plug-in hybrid – or EVer, as Henrik Fisker calls it (Electric Vehicle Extended Range) – a path we just wish more car makers would follow. But then Henrik Fisker has a background as a designer at Aston Martin, so one of his main priorities is design.

We also already knew that Fisker would be pitching the Atlantic around the same price level as the Tesla S (although Fisker himself says it will be comparable to a high-end 3 Series or A5) which puts it around £40k. Fisker says the Atlantic is aimed at young families who want ‘…to drive an impactful, high- end vehicle while making a positive statement about responsibilities ‘. Families with a few bob to spare, he should have added.

The BMW 2.0 litre range extender engine is also something we already knew about, but we didn’t know what sort of power the electric motor will have. And we still don’t. Fisker says statistics, prices and on sale date will be revealed closer to launch. Whenever that may be.

The press release tells us that the Atlantic is the most beautiful and dramatic car in its class with strong structural lines that replicate the stance of a tiger ready to pounce, with ‘eagle eye’ headlights and a glass roof with a ridged ‘spider’ structure.

And that’s about all we didn’t already know about the Fisker Atlantic.
