Fisker teases Project Nina
Thu, 22 Mar 2012Fisker has revealed a teaser image of what it is expected to be its highly-anticipated Project Nina. The Anaheim, California-based company promises to give a glimpse of what the future holds for the company at the New York auto show next month.
Project Nina, the startup carmaker's second model line after the Fisker Karma. Like the current Karma, Project Nina will initially spawn a range-extended electric sedan, albeit a more affordable one than its circa $100,000 stablemate. Its sights are locked on its main rival, the Tesla Model S.
The first product of Nina will be a mid-size luxury sedan (teased in today's sketch) and will expand into a range of body styles built around the same architecture.
Fisker has suffered from a number of well-publicized troubles in recent years, one example being denied access to federal loans by the Department of Energy after claims that several contractual milestones are yet to be met by the automaker. As a result, Fisker was forced to stop work at its Delaware plant and subsequently lay off 26 of its employees.
Project Nina is therefore crucial to the company's survival. Sales anticipated to begin around the end the year.
