Flooded-out car for sale on eBay
Mon, 17 Mar 2014A SUBMERGED CAR that was abandoned because of flooding on the Somerset Levels has been put for sale on eBay.
Hubert Zajaczkowski, 21, was forced to leave his Seat Toledo on a road near the village of Muchelney on Christmas Eve because of the rising water.
For weeks, the five-door silver petrol car remained stranded under several feet of water, filmed and photographed by national and international media and press as an illustration of the disaster unfolding in Somerset.
It was even commented on by the Prince of Wales and Prime Minister David Cameron.
The 15-year-old 1.8L saloon, which he had bought for £600, had remained submerged for more than two months but as the flood levels receded Mr Zajaczkowski was able this week to reclaim his car.
He has now decided to sell the car, which has done 110,000 miles, on eBay with the profits donated to charity helping flood victims on the Levels.
In the sale description, Mr Zajaczkowski writes: "Genuine Seat Toledo from the floods in Somerset.
"Obviously NOT in working condition, but my aim is to sell the car and donate the money to a Charity which is helping with the floods.
"Any Questions please message me. Collection Only."
The auction is due to end on Wednesday with the current highest bid of £155.
Earlier this week, Mr Zajaczkowski, an apprentice at AgustaWestland in Yeovil, spoke of his shock at the car making headlines around the world.
"I wasn't expecting my car to be on telly and then eventually international news and in newspapers," he said.
"It smells. It is unbelievably disgusting in there."
