Ford is launching the Ford Fiesta Sport+

Now the latest Ford Fiesta has matured nicely in to the market, Ford are busy tweaking what the Fiesta has to offer in response to feedback from sales in the first year (over 350k sold). We had a revision of the Fiesta range back in October (models tweaked and a new top-end Fiesta Individual revealed) and before that we had the Fiesta Sport, an all show and no go version. But now we get the Ford Fiesta Sport+ if you want your Fiesta to look ‘Sporty+’.

Sadly, the power options for the Fiesta Sport+ are limited to the existing engines from the Fiesta Zetec S – the 118bhp 1.6-litre Duratec petrol or the 94bhp 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel – which means that your GT40-style stripes on your new Sport+ are just for show.

Apart from the GT40 stripes the Fiesta Sport+ gets a new bodykit comprising a new front bumper, side skirts and the sort of rear spoiler you’d expect to see if this were the Fiesta RS. Which it’s not. Also in the ‘Butch Looks’ bin are a set of 17″ alloys on the petrol and 16″ on the diesel.

Inside the Fiesta Sport+ gets the required ‘Sport+’ badging, a set of leather sports seats and leather-covered steering wheel and  gear knob. Blue stitching gets used on the seats and dash and the floor mats get edged in blue.

Two colour schemes are on offer, either ‘Frozen White’ with Performance Blue GT stripes on the roof , bonnet and flanks, or a ‘Performance Blue’ paint job with white stripes.

It looks as if the Fiesta Sport+ is only going on sale in the UK, Austria, Spain and Switzerland as these are apparently Ford’s big ‘Warm Hatch’ markets. No word on price yet but we’ll update here as soon as Ford let us know.

I know it’s a sign of the eco-obsessed times, but it would have been nice to have a Fiesta ST at least, instead of a cosmetic job on a Zetec S.
