Ford Mad Max Interceptor Concepts
Mon, 11 Jul 2011The Ford Mad Max Interceptor Concepts - on show in Oz
You probably need to be the wrong side of 40 to remember the Mad Max films.
But you won’t remember them for the script or dialogue. You’ll remember them for Mel Gibson (in his first starring role) and for Tina Turner playing – well, a post-apocalyptic Tina Turner is probably the best description, but they call her Aunty Entity
But aside from the unlikely coupling of Mel Gibson and Tina Turner, it’s the transport you’ll remember. From Max’s Australian XB GT Ford Falcon Coupe with a new nose and supercharger poking through the bonnet to an OTT Ford F-150 via Aunty Entity’s mad buggy, the cars were very much the stars too.
But now, some 25 years after the Mad Max franchise came to an end, it’s about to be revived with plans for a new Mad Max film – Mad Max:Fury Road – starring Tom Hardy, Teresa Palmer and the delicious Charlize Theron. And they’re going to need transport.
So with the Australian International Motor Show running in Melbourne Ford has taken the opportunity to show off some of the concepts they’ve been developing for the new Mad Max – albeit at just forty per cent scale.
All very interesting, but to our eyes they look too slick; too manufactured. Surely the point of the cars in Mad Max is that they’re a product of necessity; cobbled-together from what’s available in a decimated, post-apocalyptic world?
But film makers never did let detail get in the way of product placement.
