Ford Motor Co. has released official details of the seven-passenger 2013 Ford Explorer Sport; it's the top trim line of the model. We first learned of the sporty version in March during the New York auto show.
The full-size SUV will use the company's EcoBoost turbocharged V6 for power, making 365 hp in this application. The Explorer Sport is rated at 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. A six-speed automatic is standard.
The Sport gets special Terrain Management System settings. The system adjusts manually or automatically to differing road conditions such as snow, sand and rocks. Ford says the changes “enable a luxurious ride for enthusiasts, without the harshness of performance competitors.” A torque-sensing four-wheel-drive system is standard.
The Sport is available in four colors: Ruby red metallic, White Platinum metallic, Tuxedo black and Ingot silver.
