Freelander 2 RS200 by Project Khan
Mon, 31 May 2010The Freelander RS200 by Project Khan - a bit of a bargain
I suppose you could say we opened our mouth too soon. It’s only a couple of weeks ago – when we reviewed Land Rover’s latest Freelander 2 HSE – we said in passing that, unlike the Range Rover Sport, you almost never see a pimped out Freelander 2. Wrong.
Project Khan, suppliers of pimped-out cars to footballers, WAGS and associated followers (and others – we’re teasing – a bit), has decided that creating OTT Range Rovers isn’t enough to keep them busy, so they’ve turned their hands to the UK’s best selling compact (ish) SUV – the Land Rover Freelander 2 – to create the Project Khan Freelander RS200.
And actually, it doesn’t look too bad. Not only is it acceptable looking it’s also something of a bargain. But more of that shortly.
In terms of the Freelander 2 ‘Khan-ing’ you get new side vents on the wings and a new grill (we prefer the original), Khan 20″ RS alloys (nice), matt black bonnet stripe (no comment), silver-coloured door mirrors and door handles (nice contrast) and some smoked lenses.
The interior gets treated to quilted black leather with white contrast stitching, steering wheel with the same and Kahn red and white speedo and rev counter’s [sic]. Not at all over the top and quite decent looking, in a showy sort of way.
Sadly there’s no power hike, which is a bit of a shame. The 2.2 litre PSA lump in the Freelander 2 is a decent engine, but it could do with a few more horses. It wouldn’t have cost a fortune to up the count from the standard 157bhp to something closer to 200bhp – and get an extra lump of torque in to the bargain.
But maybe Project Khan were trying to keep prices down. After all, the RS200 comes in at £29,995 which includes both the Freelander 2 and £10k of Khan gubbins. That total is around £4k less than the Freelander 2 HSE we reviewed the other week.
We’ve dropped an email to Project Khan to see what the base model is and what standard kit the Freelander 2 RS200 has in addition to the Khan goodies.
Because to us it looks a bit of a bargain.
