Wed, 19 Dec 2012General Motors China has opened a new advanced design studio as part of the establishment of its Advanced Technical Center in Shanghai.
The Advanced Design Center will provide GM China's designers the tools to explore future mobility solutions and technology integration on a local and global scale.
"Our new Advanced Design Center in Shanghai is part of the GM Global Design Center network, which webs from California to Germany to India and Korea and points beyond," said Wulin Gaowa, design director of the GM China Advanced Design Center.
"We are building a team of talented local designers and modelers that will enable us to deliver world-class work for China and other markets."
A virtual reality room allows designers to review high-resolution two-dimensional and three-dimensional data, while the team also have the ability to evaluate full-size clay models under natural light in the extensive observation area. Full-size plates allow the production of models on-site.
Wulin and her team will also carry out research of Chinese customer mobility behaviors and needs, coupled with trends in automotive design and other industries in China that will be fed back into GM globally.
The new Advanced Technical Center will employ up to 250 designers, engineers with researchers working in advanced vehicle design, powertrain and vehicle engineering, telematics and research and development.
