GM and PSA announce four joint vehicle programs
Wed, 24 Oct 2012PSA Peugeot/Citroën and General Motors have confirmed they will develop four future vehicle projects as part of their ‘Global Strategic Alliance' as both parties grapple with dwindling sales and spiraling costs in the European market.
The first is a joint program for a compact-class MPV for Opel/Vauxhall and a compact-class Crossover Utility Vehicle for the Peugeot brand. The second project has been confirmed as a joint MPV program for the small car segment for Opel/Vauxhall and the Citroën brand.
A new, low CO2 small car platform for Opel/Vauxhall's and PSA's next generation of cars is also in line to be developed. The fourth joint program is for mid-size cars for Opel/Vauxhall and the Peugeot and Citroën brands.
PSA and GM are hoping to launch the first vehicles on these common programs by the end of 2016.
The two groups signed a ‘Master Agreement' in February making them partners and this latest announcement has confirmed that the two will be developing the projects combining platform architectures and technologies from all partners.
