Honda NSX: 2013 Detroit Auto Show

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

A new version of the Honda NSX Concept (Acura NSX) has been revealed at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, this time with an interior.

But last year, at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, Honda turned up with the first concept of the new NSX, complete with a confession that this NSX wasn’t a done deal for production, but a work in progress.

That work in progress is now back at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show and comes with a few tweaks to the styling but, more importantly, the first idea of how the interior will look when the new NSX does arrive in a couple of years (probably).

We say ‘first idea’, because Honda are making it clear that the cabin on the NSX Concept at Detroit is just a first concept and that there’s plenty of time to reinterpret what’s on offer. But it looks a good start.

Honda say the interior of the NSX Concept  is based on a ‘Human Support Cockpit’ which provides a focus on ‘the synergy between man and machine’. So now you know.

What we do get – for now – is a convincing looking cabin with lots of dark red leather, Alcantara and big lumps of carbon fibre on the dash, door pulls and running down the centre console from the dash in a big statement of intent. It looks pretty good.

Under the skin, the NSX is still sporting a three-motor hybrid with torque vectoring all wheel drive, with one electric motor integrated with the NSX’s V6 and the other two driving the front wheels, with a new dual-clutch ‘box.

No doubt Honda will be back at Detroit in 2014 with a few more tweaks to the NSX.
