Honda Skydeck Concept at Tokyo
Wed, 30 Sep 2009The Honda Skydeck Concept will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show
We had Honda’s CR-Z Concept earlier, and now we gate Honda’s take on the new Ford C-Max – the Honda Skydeck Concept. But again, it’s more than a concept. This is Honda’s planned replacement for the FR-V – just bigger and a lot more contemporary.
You won’t be shocked to learn that the Skydeck is a Hybrid and features variation of the Insight platform – just like the CR-Z Concept. But the batteries have been relocated to the centre console running the length of the Skydeck’s interior. Honda aren’t actually saying what engine the Skydeck runs, but it seems likely it will be based on the 1.5 litre i-VTEC as on the CR-Z.
The Skydeck features three rows of seats, with the centre row folding under the front to give easy access to the back row. Also on offer is a panoramic glass roof which bathes the interior of the Skydeck in light, and a design-ery interior that looks like IKEA has been drafted in for their latest ideas.
And Honda has decided that they would go all out with the doors for maximum impact, and has made the front doors in to scissors and the rears in to sliders. It seems unlikely they will make it in to production. Also unlikely for production are the translucent green wheels. But they suit a show concept.
