Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept: 2013 Detroit Auto Show
Mon, 14 Jan 2013The Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept has been revealed at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, previewing the next generation of Hyundai’s premium offerings.
Hyundai has now revealed the HCD-14 Genesis Concept in Detroit and there’s little doubt that this is the next Hyundai Genesis, albeit with a chunk of concept fripperies thrown in to titillate.
Concept fripperies like the rear suicide doors and enormous carbon fibre wheels seem likely to be lost in the production version of the new Genesis (although Hyundai may surprise us) but it seems likely that the overall styling will come through, just as it has on many of Hyundai’s recent concepts (unless Peter Schreyer has a play now he’s in charge of Hyundai design).
The Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis is definitely from the school of four door coupe design, with its swoopy, flowing lines, and it incorporates lots of ideas (in addition to the carbon fibre enhanced wheels and suicide doors) like aviation-inspired gauges, iPad tablet storage and driver eye-tracking and 3D hand gesture control which can control many of the car’s functions.
The ability to control many of the car’s functions with eye-tracking and hand gestures means a reduction in distractions, say Hyundai, and all the better to appreciate the dynamics of the HCD-14 Genesis with its ultra-rigid chassis and RWD platform offering the promise of much fun from the 5.0 litre V8 lurking under the bonnet.
It all looks rather enticing. Perhaps now is a good time to start a campaign to get Hyundai to deliver the next generation Genesis to the UK market?
