Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis is the ‘Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2013′

Hyundai does do good concept cars, and they do have a bit of a track record of taking more of what a concept promises through to production than many other car makers. Like the i-Flow that turned in to the Hyundai i40. So the news that a Hyundai concept has grabbed the gong for the most significant concept car of 2013 does auger well for a future where the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis actually turns in to the next Genesis, with much of what the concept offers still recognisable.

That means stunning lines, great detail (like the grill), suicide doors at the back, carbon fibre wheels, 3-D gesture control, the promise of great dynamics and a nice V8 under the bonnet.

The award for the Genesis Concept as the overall winner at the twelfth North American Concept Vehicle Awards saw much praise for the HCD-14, with one juror, Thom Cannell, saying:

HCD-14 boldly inspires fear – in hearts of German and British luxury carmakers. We think it embodies the strength of German engineering with the bespoke sophistication embodied in older British and French classics. Presented in full modernity, the car simply deserves to be built as a World Class world vehicle.

We’ll echo those sentiments, and throw in another ask for Hyundai to bring the Genesis to the UK and Europe when the next generation arrives.

Other winners in the concept vehicle awards included the BMW i8 Spyder in the Production Preview category and the Ford Atlas in the Concept Truck category.

But it was the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept that grabbed the limelight.
