Hyundai Veloster Race Game in Times Square (video)

Hyundai has set up their LED screen in New York’s Times Square so passers-by can play a race game from an iPhone app.
You’ve got to hand it to Hyundai – they certainly know how to raise awareness and hit the Zeitgeist. From the modern day equivalent of Lada and Yugo to a serious threat to car makers from Europe and Japan in less than a decade, it’s not just their cars that have come a long way – their PR has too.
The latest PR stunt from Hyundai sees their huge LED billboard in New York’s Times Square turned in to an interactive race game featuring the new Hyundai Veloster, which passers-by can jump on to and play with a free to download iPhone app (no Android app?).
If you happen to be popping to New York for a bit of shopping before the New Year, make sure you grab the app so you can join the throngs vying to play on what is probably the biggest gaming screen…in the world. You might have to wait a while, but the game can be for two and certainly beats playing on your screen at home – however big your screen is.
Could we see Hyundai UK repeating this stunt on their screen in Piccadilly Circus? Technically it should be possible, as the screens in Piccadilly Circus are now also LED. But the problem is that Hyundai’s Piccadilly Circus screens are curved, rather than flat like those in Times Square.
But that could add a whole new dimension.
