Hyundai i40 Saloon joins the i40 Tourer – prices and specs
Fri, 30 Sep 2011Hyundai i40 Saloon
As regular readers will know, we’re very impressed with the Hyundai i40 Tourer. But a load-lugger is not the meat of the market for car makers, so we’ve been waiting for the Hyundai i40 saloon to arrive. And now it has.
And to all intents and purposes the i40 saloon is the i40 tourer without the extra bit bolted on the back. It’s arguable it’s not quite as stylish as its Tourer kin, but that’s probably because we have an unfathomable fetish for good-looking estate cars. And the i40 Tourer is a very good looking estate.
But the i40 saloon does a decent job of looking good in a modern, mainstream, sleek and appealing kind of way. The back end is confidently done and looks decent – as you would now expect from Hyundai – and the dynamic roofline continues without – it would seem – compromising headroom in the process.
The i40 saloon comes in the same three flavours as the Tourer – Active, Style and Premium – the same two engines (with a choice of two power outputs from the 1.7 CRDi – 113bhp or 134bhp) and a manual or auto ‘box option.
Just as we’ve seen with the i40 Tourer, the i40 saloon gets a better than decent standard kit with stuff like Bluetooth, electric windows and mirrors and 16″ alloys. There’s SatNav, parking sensors, Cruise, and Climate on the Style models and Leather, Panoramic Roof and Keyless kicking in on the range-topping Premium i40s.
Add to that a five year, unlimited mileage warranty and prices starting from £17,395 and Mondeo drivers will be fleeing like lemmings to the nearest Hyundai showroom.
The Hyundai i40 saloon goes on sale in the UK on January 5th 2012.
