But in Europe, it has been sales of the Hyundai Tucson that have driven Hyundai’s sales. An able and competent small SUV – at a bargain price – it has racked up some quite impressive sales. But it’s time to move on, and Hyundai will be revealing the Hyundai ix35 at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month as the Tucson’s replacement. Hence the teaser picture at the top.
The Hyundai ix35 is the first Hyundai SUV to be designed and engineered in Europe, and follows the successful Hyundai i10 to be conceived this way. Hyundai is pushing hard to be competitive not just on price, but on style and engineering. The move away from the little Korean boxes they used to make has moved Hyundai up the ladder, and it looks likely that the new Hyundai ix35 will provide some serious competition for established vehicles in this sector like the Fird Kuga and the VW Tiguan.
There ill be a couple more dribbles of information, no doubt, in the weeks between now and the Frankfurt Motor Show. We’ll keep you up to date.
