Infiniti M35h vs Porsche Panamera Hybrid race tease
Mon, 23 Jan 2012Infiniti M35h v Porsche Panamera S Hybrid. Who's the Daddy?
The Infiniti M35h Hybrid is billed by Infiniti as the world’s fastest hybrid. And now they’re pitching it against the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid.
When the Infiniti M35h Hybrid was revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 2012, we were suitably impressed that Infiniti were happy to trumpet its performance more than its eco-credentials. Instead of crowing about pointless CO2 emissions, Infiniti were delighted to tell us that the electric motor adds an extra 67bhp for more get up and go.
That get up and go means a 0-62mph in around 5.5 seconds with the ability to average 40mpg and emit 162g/km. Not all at the same time, we might add. And because the Infiniti M Hybrid is a petrol car, it emits little of the proper nasties from its tailpipe.
Fast forward a year, and Infiniti took the M35h to Santa Pod to prove how quick it was in a straight line, setting a standing quarter mile time of 13.9031 seconds and claiming the M35h to be the fastest accelerating full hybrid on sale in the world.
Now Infiniti are out to prove their point against that other high (er) end full hybrid performance car – the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid. The Panamera is more expensive (by a chunk) and more powerful (by 20bhp) but Infiniti obviously see this as a done deal.
So we get this tease for a drag race against the Panamera Hybrid, scheduled for later today. It probably won’t be the most exciting racing spectacle you’ve ever seen, but it is refreshing for a car maker to be pushing the sporting credentials of a hybrid instead of its green halo.
Check back tonight and we’ll show you who won. But you probably already know.
