Infiniti Q50 revealed ahead of Detroit

Fri, 03 Jan 2014

Infiniti has released an image of a new Q50 Eau Rouge concept ahead of its debut at the Detroit Motor Show on January 13.

The Eau Rouge is based on the Q50 saloon, and the company says it draws inspiration from the collaboration between Infiniti and Red Bull Racing.

Although the Q50 Eau Rouge is only a concept, it hints strongly that we might see a production M3-rival launched by Infiniti in the near future.

It’s lower and wider than the standard Q50 with only the roof and door profiles unchanged from the production car. The company says its design is ‘inspired by muscularity, refinement, and understated performance intent’.

Features include a raft of carbon fibre bits including a front splitter, rear diffuser and sill skirts. Both the roof and door mirrors are cased in carbon fibre, too.

Design chief Alfonso Albaisa said: “From our shared passion for performance with Infiniti Red Bull Racing grew a collective desire to produce a vision of what a high-performance Infiniti Q50 could look like.

“The design has a number of distinctive Formula One inspired touches.  In particular, the sculpted front wing assembly and the rear aerodynamic packaging take their cues from the RB9 race car.”
